For many years our family has been coming to Montana on vacation. We knew that someday we would call Montana home. That dream became a reality in August of 2015. We fell in love with Absarokee, located in the valley of the Beartooth Mountain foothills. We moved here from a small town north of Green Bay, Wisconsin where we owned and operated a state-inspected meat processing facility called Gillett Meats. Our children are now in the process of taking over the family business.
Some of our fondest memories raising our children were the trips we took to Montana. We were lucky to have parents that owned a second home in Red Lodge. We spent summer and winter vacations here and every time we came we explored new places and tried new adventures. We have skied and rode horses in the mountains, fished the mountain lakes and the rivers, we have seen numerous rodeos, biked down the Beartooth, visited numerous Museums, been to Ghost towns, Whitewater rafted numerous rivers, enjoyed Yellowstone in the winter on snowcats or spent a summer day taking in the wildlife and scenery of Yellowstone. We have ridden with sled dogs and experienced the Big Horn Canyon among other things. The adventures here are endless and there is so much more to do and see.
We think everyone should experience Montana. We want to share these experiences with all of our family and friends and extend this to anyone looking for a wonderful vacation. Our love for this state and this area is the reason we built the cabin. We want to take our experiences here and help people have the vacation of their dreams.
We are not quite ready to retire, so our future plans will include processing wild game. We enjoyed many aspects of our butcher shop back in Wisconsin and loved making a variety of sausages. We feel there is a need for wild game processing in this area and plan to have a small facility up and running for 2016. We want to keep the meat processing much simpler in our old age (LOL) so we will only be processing wild game. We will offer skin, cut, grind, wrap and offer a variety of sausages. We hope to rent our cabin to hunters in the fall and offer the processing while they stay.
