*****IMPORTANT Youth Membership Announcement*****
At the 2008 ASPC/AMHR National Convention, the Board of Directors voted to change procedures with the Junior Memberships. Previously, the Junior Memberships were $10 and were valid until the Youth turned 18. Also, it was not required for a Youth to have an ASPC/AMHR Youth Membership to show in ASPC/AMHR Sanctioned Shows in Youth Classes. Now, the Junior Memberships are FREE but are to be renewed annually just like the Amateurs AND these Junior Memberships are required for a Youth to show at any ASPC/AMHR Sanctioned Show in a Youth Class.There were three main factors in the decision on this:
- Due to the new rule for qualifying horses at Nationals, we had no way of tracking youth showing who did not have a youth number (as stated above it was not required for the youth to have a number to show, so, if they did not have a number they could not be tracked to verify they qualified with a horse).
- In the past, we have not sent out Youth Packets to every youth listed as members because it was not financially possible to do so. The only way to receive a current Youth Packet was to either call the Office or the Youth Chair or if you were one of the Lucky Ones you received one at a show (as did many youth in Area 5).
- The list of current Junior Members was a very, very long list that when printed was a super large stack of papers with countless names. Many of these youth no longer show or their addresses/phone numbers were no longer correct. So, it was very hard for the Youth Committee to do mass mailings to keep youth up-to-date. We now have a website that is maintained but not everyone has access to computers/internet.
So, with this change, the Youth Committee and Office will have a current/active list of Youth to target for current information about awards and programs. Also, we will be able to mail every youth a current Youth Packet. Youth Packets this year will not go out until March. The Youth Committee has changed the Award Deadlines that were April 1 to June 1.
Those Youth who had paid the $10 for their Memberships, need to reapply just the same. On the New Junior Membership Form, there is a place for them to put their current Youth Number. As you reapply every year, you will be assigned the same number.
Youth will also be able to join at the show. They will only need to speak with the Show Steward to receive and fill out their form and they will be able to show that day. These forms will need a Parent/Guardian signature and a Current ASPC/AMHR Member as a sponsor...the Parent/Guardian can also be the Sponsor Member.
The New 2008 Youth Packet will be ready and out in March. It will be placed here on the website. Keep checking back for more updates. We have several new things going on this year...so, PLEASE check back often to see what else we have to offer you!
